The Las Vegas security industry is becoming one of the largest employers in Nevada. The opportunities for employment in the security industry are available to those who qualify and wish to have a career in this growing sector.
The Nevada Security Guard Training Academy was founded in 2018, in Las Vegas, Nevada in order to enhance the security industry with trained professional security officers ready to take on the role of a security guard. The 8 hour one day class will give the student a good insight into what is required of them to be a security guard and will definitely aid him or her in their initial interview in obtaining gainful employment. A short true/ false exam will be conducted at the end of the class which will measure the ability of a student to benefit from this training. To attend this training class, you must be 21 years of age or older.
At the present time we are working on presenting the PILB with suggested amendments to the existing State Administrative Code requiring more formal training for security guards. However, in the meantime our facility can enhance your chances of pursuing and obtaining employment in the field of private security.

All of this is explained on the Nevada private investigators licensing board website at: nevadapilb.glsuite.us. In addition to security guard training information, the website also contains forms, contact information, submission guidelines, and other important documentation regarding the registration cards.
In addition to the basic requirements to obtain a security registration card, those who wish to work armed security must complete additional steps in order to be approved by Nevada to do so. It is vital that a person who carries a firearm for their job be properly trained and educated on everything that comes with the responsibility of doing so. People in Las Vegas who wish to be recognized as armed security guards need to acquire weapons permits. In order to obtain these, additional security training is required. The training for firearms safety is usually a few days worth of gun safety instruction, an overview of state and federal laws and marksmanship practice. This additional security training component is important to ensure that the people working armed security are knowledgeable and prepared to protect not only themselves but the general public of Las Vegas as well. This responsibility should never be taken lightly.

The Background Check Process For Security Positions In Nevada
Fingerprint-based criminal background checks are required by the Nevada Private Investigators Licensing Board for many security jobs. Pursuant to NRS 648.040, the board requires that full fingerprints be forwarded to the Central Repository for Nevada Records of Criminal History for submission to the Federal Bureau of Investigation to determine the applicants criminal history.
Because security professionals are entrusted with a certain amount of authority and are privy to sensitive information, it is crucial to make sure applicants are of good moral character and will not abuse the position.
For this reason, felony convictions that question an applicants character, involve dangerous weapons, or involve controlled substances within the last five years will disqualify the applicant from receiving a security guard card.
