Now Why Get A Nasm Certified Personal Trainer Credential

NASM CPT Exam FAQ 2022 – NASM exam pass rate, Test difficulty, and Info âï¸?

To be knowledgable! You do not have to want to work as a personal trainer in a gym training clients one-on-one to benefit from the process of obtaining and maintaining a personal trainer certification.

  • For instance, if you have a group fitness instructor credential, you will get way more in-depth knowledge on the body, muscle imbalances, basic science and program design that will help you to be better in front of your classes and with your members before and after class.
  • In addition, if youre an avid exerciser, perhaps you to want to truly understand how to best treat and program your own workout routine based on getting a PT certification. That way, you will get even more out of the hours and hours youre already spending at the gym.
  • Of course, if youre a social media influencer and sharing your fitness tips with an audience, you most definitely need to have a CPT to back up your stuff too.

And its not just about workout moves, its so much more than that. You learn about nutrition , you also learn about the blood, coaching practices and special populations too, just to name a few things.

I happen to love to learn, and I also love to challenge myself by going after new certifications. And because I teach group classes regularly, write about fitness and am a resource to class attendees and blog readers about all things fitness, it just made sense for me to get this certification.

Nasm Overhead Squat Assessment And Other Assessments

Big tip: The overhead squat assessment is absolutely huge on the exam. You will see over 10 questions on this assessment alone. Some of my students have reported seeing up to 15 questions on this single assessment. You need to know what to focus on from the anterior view as well as the lateral view. Which muscles are overactive and which ones are underactive? Memorize this whole list!

You need to be able to identify other common muscular imbalances such as pronation distortion syndrome, lower crossed syndrome, and upper crossed syndrome. What are the under and overactive muscles for these syndromes?

Practice doing fitness assessments with friends and family.

One of my very first jobs was at a small gym. I was in high school, and I took care of the front desk on the weekends, which offered me the convenience of a free membership. I also got to walk newbies around the gym, showing them the little circuit training section they could use. Back then, I took a series of workshops on personal training but never ended up sitting for the test. I used the information Id learned in the workshops to program my own workouts, and I kept that with me throughout my years of working out. But last year, I was ready to really get a bit more serious about it, since I was about to open my own studio and wanted to offer personal training.

In May of 2019, I finalized my purchase of the National Academy of Sports Medicines Certified Personal Training guided study program, and I took and passed the test on the first attempt on December 31st, 2019, which I was really proud of because apparently they have about a 66% pass rate. Its definitely not an easy test, and I get pretty bad test anxiety, so I am really proud of this achievement and wanted to share the tools I think helped me most, in case someone out there is studying for it and looking for some advice.

The first thing Ill tell you about the NASM personal trainer certification cost is that there is more than just one option.

I will say that NASM is far from the cheapest personal trainer certifications, however the clout and respect associated with being NASM certified makes the juice worth the squeeze, so to speak.

For this article, I will lay out the pricing before any promotions. NASM often runs temporary promotions so its worth checking directly through the site for current deals.

The Self-Study is the first tier of NASMs study prep materials.

It costs $899 before any current promotions and provides the following:

  • NCCA-accredited personal trainer certification exam
  • Online CPT certification quizzes
  • Comprehensive NASM study guide

The NASM Self-Study cant be beaten and is best for those who just want to study and sit for the exam, without any additional, fancy-schmancy resources, like flashcards.

  • Anatomy Memorization Activity

When Will I Find Out Whether Or Not I Passed

Your NASM certified personal trainer exam will be scored immediately by the web-based testing software you used to take it, so you will receive a preliminary result as soon as youre done. If its a pass , you can present this result to a potential employer while you wait for your official verified result from NASM, which usually takes about two weeks.

If you dont pass, dont be hard on yourself. The NASM CPT exam covers some pretty intense material and its possible you just underestimated what to expect. I mean, very few people go into personal training expecting to have to learn what the heck lysosomes, ribosomes, and endoplasmic reticula are. Thats why the pass rate is only 65%!

Remember, you can always retake the NASM CPT exam. And if this happens to you, just take a deep breath and approach your studies differently. Well show you exactly how to do that in the next section of our NASM study guide…

Personal Training Certification: The Ultimate Guide

Personal trainers can focus on a specific area or choose to have a broader approach that uses all areas and elements of being fit.

The first thing we need to look at when it comes to the CPT exam from NSCA is to see exactly how it is broken down.

And the facts are as follows:

  • The exam consists of 155 questions. Of these, 140 are scored and 15 are non-scoring
  • The exam is split into four domains
  • You have three hours to complete the exams

Now you probably asking what are non-scored questions?

Basically, they are questions that the NSCA are considering for future exams and they are effectively in a testing phase, thats why you are not scored on them.

How This Movie Of Elf Larry B Archy Will Help You

Once you review these five scenes in your mind and know the story, youre ready for the explanation.

If you review this short story often enough, you will know the most critical parts of the OSA solutions table like the back of your hand.

And every time you run into a question like Which muscles could likely be tight or overactive if a client exhibits feet turning out during the overhead squat assessment?, you will immediately know the answer is Sandwich of Bacon & Lettuce, SBL, which stands for Soleus, Biceps femoris short head, and Lateral Gastrocnemius.

Dont worry about the names of the muscles yet or what tight and overactive means, we will tackle that in the next section. First, get the story and its symbolism down pat.

The story is a mnemonic device and all of the bolded letters and words will help you remember the unfamiliar compensations and muscle names.

Here is the story decoded as explained in How to Memorize the Overhead Squat Assessment for the NASM CPT Exam.

Note the views , as well as the compensations in the next section.

Remember that compensation means that you or your clients body is compensating during the assessment because of a muscle imbalance.

Each compensation reveals the likely muscles causing the compensation, either because they are too tight, short, and overactive or weak, long, and underactive.

If you are not sure of what that means, hold on till section four.
