So Whats The Passing Score For Pmp
Page 30 of the PMP Handbook says the following:
Establishing the Passing Score
The passing score for all PMI exams is determined by sound psychometric analysis. PMI uses subject matter experts project professionals from around the world and many different disciplines to determine how many questions you must answer correctly to pass the exam. Each scored question on the exam is worth one point, and your final score is calculated by totaling the points you have earned on the exam. The number of questions you answer correctly places you within one of the performance rating categories you see on this report.
PMI does not publish what a passing score is because each exam is unique. You get a randomized set of 200 questions from the test bank. Some exams, due to this randomization, are harder than others who pull easier questions.
In other words PMI keeps this a secret!
That said, if you are consistently scoring around 75% in your mock tests, you are ready!
Is The Pmp Exam Pass Rate 61 %
There is no information regarding this. As we have mentioned, the last time PMI published a PMP exam pass rate was in 2005. Since PMP is a psychometric test, the PMP exam pass rate depends on the kind of questions you get. If you get easier questions, then the PMP exam pass rate will likely be higher. On the other hand, if you get more difficult ones, the PMP certification exam passing score could be lower. So what score you need to pass the PMP exam depends on the questions you got in the exam.

The Passing Score Of Pmp Is 61%
No. we dont know. As mentioned, the last time PMI published a passing score was way back in 2005. Since PMP is a psychometric test, the passing score depends on the kind of questions you get. If you get easier questions, then the passing score is likely to be higher. On the other hand, if you get more difficult questions, the score could be lower.
How Many Questions Come In The Pmp Exam How Long Is The Exam
The PMP exam is conducted both as a Computer Based Test and Paper Based Test . The CBT is conducted by Perason VUE on the behalf of PMI.
The exam has 180 multiple-choice questions that come from 3 different domains. You are given 230 minutes to complete the exam, which means you get approximately 76 seconds per question.
In addition to the 230 minutes exam time, you also get an option for two scheduled breaks of 10 minutes each. No breaks are given for the paper-based exam.
The two breaks are not counted towards your exam time. So, effectively, you get 250 minutes to complete the exam.
You can treat the exam to be divided into three sections of 60 questions each. After completing the first 60 questions and again after completing the next 60 questions, the Pearson VUE software gives you an option to take a 10 minutes break.
The software will start the break only after you have confirmed that you have reviewed your responses. Once you start the break after reviewing your responses, you cannot return to the questions from previous section. So, you should be absolutely sure before taking the break.
You should budget approximately 76 minutes for each section. You can use the breaks to stretch yourself and take a snack.

Formula Based Pmp Questions
Formula based PMP questions are basically types of questions that demand specific formulas to solve problems and calculate the exact value. But these questions do not just deal with the value calculation. Instead, calculate the exact value. You have to memorize at least 49 PMP formulas.
During your preparation period, you need to capture all those formulas. Otherwise, you would not calculate the exact value. However, these questions need critical thinking and analytical power to be solved. You have to choose the correct answer similar or the same to your calculated value.

What Is The Passing Criteria For The Pmp Exam
PMI has not published any fixed score or criteria for passing the PMP exam. In 2007, there was a fixed score of 61% for passing the PMP exam but after that no one knows if there is a fixed score or not. Instead of using a fixed score, PMI may be using an entirely different mechanism like percentile scoring to pass or fail the candidates.
PMI gives a score report after a candidate finishes the exam. The score report shows ratings of the candidate on a 4 points scale for each of the 3 domains that are listed in the previous section. These are called performance rating categories.
One of the following rating is given to the candidate for each domain:
- needs improvement
You can refer to our other article on passing criteria of the PMP exam to understand more details about how PMI passes or fails a candidate.
Exam Preparation: 2 To 4 Months
This part of the process in terms of duration is up to you. If you have a good understanding of all the concepts and have enough time to prepare rigorously a month may be enough time. Similarly, if you dont have enough time due to your work or other commitments your preparation may extend to six months or more. 2 to 4 months gives you enough time to cover all the topics while retaining your learning.
Your exam preparation should include practice exams in the PMP exam format. In terms of topics to be covered PMI has categorized them into three and apportioned what percentage of questions you can expect from each domain.
The last two categories are new additions that have been added in the year 2021.

The above paragraph shows that the passing score depends on the set of questions received.
