The Analytical Reasoning section, sometimes known as Logic Games, assesses your skills in basic logic, including deductive reasoning and finding structure within organized data. These test items are of the type Alan, Beatrice, Carmel, and David all buy flowers. There are five different types of flowers: germanium. Some of the games require matching skills, others require sequencing skills, and still others will require both.

The 30-minute Writing Sample, which comes at the end of the test, assesses your ability to argue one position over another, supporting one position while knocking down the other. This section is not graded, but the essay is sent to law schools to aid them in the admission process.

How Long Is The Logical Reasoning Section

The logical reasoning section is 35 minutes with 25-26 questions.

In the Logical Reasoning section, you will have approximately a minute and a half for each question. It tests you on how well you can evaluate logical arguments. This is an important skill you will absolutely need in law school and while practicing law.

You will see at least one LR section on test day two times if the experimental section is also LR. Since there are only three scored sections of the exam, the LR sections count for a third of your LSAT score. This makes sense given how important the skill its testing is to your life past pre-law.

Why Is The Lsat So Important

Regardless of the LSAT length, you might be wondering why the LSAT is so important for prospective law students looking to get into their dream law schools. There are three main reasons that this test is such a huge factor in law school applications, and thus, why it is so important that you perform well on it to ensure you have the best chance to get into your preferred school. Here are those three reasons:

The LSAT Serves as A Common Measuring Stick for All Applicants

Like any standardized test, the LSAT provides admissions committees the closest thing to an objective standard by which to compare law school applicants. While GPAs might not accurately reflect a studentâs abilities, and statements of purpose can be so subjective, the LSAT is the one thing that every student will have in common. Thus, it is much easier for admissions officers to compare applicants with this standard metric.

The Average LSAT Score of Law Schools Students Is a Significant Factor in the Schoolâs Rankings

Publications that feature rankings of educational institutions, like US World & News Report, use the average LSAT scores of the admitted students at each law school to help determine each schoolâs ranking. That is, law schools are very concerned with earning or maintaining high rankings in such publications. As a result, they have a major incentive to admit students with the highest LSAT scores.

How Has The Coronavirus Pandemic Impacted Lsat Scores

How to take a timed LSAT preptest

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, in June 2020 LSAC rolled out a three-section, remotely proctored LSAT exam, known as the LSAT Flex. In August 2021, the LSAT Flex was replaced with the current version of the test, which contains four sections and around 75 scored questions. This version of the LSAT will be used through at least June 2023.

Wed be remiss not to mention the fact that, for a host of reasons, the number of high LSAT scores has increased dramatically during this time. In turn, median scores have risen across law schools of every tier, including the T-14. While in the recent past, a 170 was at or above the median LSAT score for all but the top five law schools, many believe that the new barrier to entry for the T-14 is now a 171the current 97th percentile.

Whether this will continue to be true in the years to come remains to be seen. But for now, applicants aiming for top law schools should be aware of these rising standards.

Receiving Your Lsat Score

You’ll receive your score via email approximately three to four weeks after the test. If you take the LSAT more than once, law schools will see all scores earned within the past five years, though most will evaluate your candidacy based on your highest score. Law schools will also see if you canceled a score, withdrew, or were a no-show at a test administration. Your score is only released to you and the law schools to which you apply.

Your LSAT score will remain active for 5 years, so if a 22-year-old is really forward-looking, they might be wise to study for LSAT and take the test right after finishing her undergrad, before getting too deep into work, travel, or other entanglements that would make studying for the LSAT logistically tougher later.

Admission Requirements For Law School

Your Guide To LSAT Logic Games

How To Take An Lsat Practice Test

People preparing for the LSAT often ask about the best way to craft a practice test prior to sitting for the real thing. So weve put together a list of considerations to help you create what we feel is the optimal practice test situation, and given links to resources for each of these points in case you need more information.

  • Consider your mindset. Like any serious discussion of the LSAT, the most appropriate way to begin is by talking about mentality. We have already talked at length about the proper mindset so well spare you too much redundancy, but suffice it to say that if youre planning to take a practice test under adverse mental conditions, you should probably reconsider. It could be that youre tired from a long day, or it could simply be that the motivation to take an entire exam isnt there. Regardless, if you cannot commit your full mental and physical resources to the task, youre going to underperform, and likely develop bad habits and undermine some self-confidence in the process. So always consider your mental state before you take a practice test, and make sure you have the right attitude before you begin.
